Structure of CDB's
The Board structure for CDB’s is set down by the Dept of Environment, Heritage & Local Government, and is designed to bring together all the ‘players’ who are working to develop various aspects of life in the county.
There are four ‘pillars’ represented on the Board:
- Local Authority– including elected members and the County Manager
- Local Development – including County Enterprise Board, Monaghan Integrated Development (formerly LEADER and County Monaghan Partnership)
- State Agencies – including VEC, FAS, Teagasc, the IDA, Enterprise Ireland, An Garda Siochána and the HSE
- Social Partners – Farming organisations, Monaghan Community Forum, Trade unions & employers’ organisations
The representatives are appointed by various means:
- Where an organisation has a permanent place on the Board, that organisation is asked to nominate a representative, usually its CEO or a very senior officer
- The Elected Members are nominated by the Members
- Monaghan Community Forum takes its two representatives from its Management Executive; one of the two reps always has a background in issues affecting disadvantaged people.
The CDB is re-constituted after each Local Election, so a Board sits for a term of 5 years. The Board was last re-constituted in summer 2009.
Membership of Monaghan CDB
The composition of the Board is laid out according to guidelines provided by the Dept of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government. The Board's term of office mirrors that of the County Council; that is, it is reconstituted every five years.
The current Board took up its term of office in summer 2009. The members, the organisations they represent, and the 'pillar' they belong to are listed below.
